The Title of Research
II.
The Background of Problem
We can feel how important the function
of the language is. It serves as a means of communications. And every body
realizes that all activities will be paralyzed
without the language.
Through the language, the culture of a nations can be formed, guided,
developed, and inherited to the forthcoming generations. By the existence
of the language which serves as a means
of communications, so everything around
the people: events, animals, plantations and so on, are getting respond
in the human mind. They will be rearranged and revealed towards the other
people as the materiel of communications. Communications through this language
enables people to adapt them selves to the environment. It enables people to
learn the habit, custom, and culture as well as their backgrounds.
Remembering the importance of language
serves as a means of communications, we can limit the definition of language is
a language is a means of communications among the members of society produced
by human utterance through the sound signal.[1]
We think that wrong assumption of
language mastery is caused by the wrong sight of the language nature. Many
people think that a Javanese child must be good at speaking Javanese and a
France child must be good at speaking France…but, the real fact is that if the
Javanese is not educated nor brought up in the Javanese family or Javanese
society, he or she will not be good at speaking Javanese.[2]
The Indonesian language has two
functions, namely (1) it serves as the national language and (2) serves as the
country language. As the national language, it serves as: (1) the symbol of
national proud (2) the symbol of national identity (3) a means to unite Indonesian people which come
from distinct culture and language background (4) a means of interrelationship among the
cultures and interrelationship among the regions; and as Indonesian language,
it serves as: (1) the official language of the country (2) the official
language in the education institutions (3) the official language in relation to
the national stage (4) the official language in relation to the construction of
the culture, of utilization of science, and of
modern technology.[3]
While English language is largest spread language. The number of
English native speakers approximate 170 millions in 1992. almost all of them
use standard or substandard English
language.[4]
Besides Indonesian language, English language is also taught in
every school in Indonesia. I assume there is relationship between Indonesian
and English language course. And according to my observation, in March 2009, when
the class was attended by 7 students of 32, the 7 students could not understand
the meaning of the sentence of “Disco Dancing-Related Injuries”, and also in
the same month, a student of English department wrote a sentence of “Tomorrow
on 09.00 pm”, and still in the same
month, Mr. Dollar Yuwono told his students to change the sentence of “Sekolah
yang diatur dengan baik”, into English. At last, they could not either answer it
correctly.
Therefore, I want to solve the problem
by making research in this proposal. And one of my assumptions is that there is correlation between Indonesian and English Structure Skill, so this proposal is given the title of
“THE INFLUENCE OF INDONESIAN STRUCTURE SKILL TO THE ENGLISH STRUCTURE SKILL FOR THE SIXTH SEMESTER OF ENGLISH DEPARTEMENT STUDENT OF STAIN PONOROGO IN THE YEAR OF 2008/2009
III.
The Formulations of Problem
A.
How is the influence of Indonesian structure skill to the English structure
skill for the sixth semester of English department students of STAIN Ponorogo
in the year of 2008/2009?
B.
How good are the Indonesian structure
skill and the English structure skill of
the sixth semester of English department students of STAIN Ponorogo in
the year of 2008/2009?
C.
Do the Indonesian structure skill and
the English structure skill of the sixth
semester of English department students of STAIN Ponorogo in the year of
2008/2009 influence each other?
IV.
The Objectives of Research
A.
To know how the influence of
Indonesian structure skill to the English structure skill for the sixth
semester of English department students of STAIN Ponorogo in the year of
2008/2009.
B.
To know how good the Indonesian structure
skill and the English structure skill of
the sixth semester of English department students of STAIN Ponorogo in
the year of 2008/2009 are.
C.
To know if the Indonesian structure
skill and the English structure skill of
the sixth semester of English department students of STAIN Ponorogo in
the year of 2008/2009 influence each other.
V.
The Advantages of Research
A.
Theoretical advantage
This
research will be useful to examine whether the Indonesian structure skill and
the English structure skill of the sixth
semester of English department students of STAIN Ponorogo in the year of
2008/2009 influence each other.
B.
Practical advantages
1.
It will be useful for the students,
and it is hoped that the students acquire the motivation of studying.
2.
It will be useful for the teachers, to
correct them selves whether Indonesian and English language they taught to
their students has been successful or not.
3.
It will be useful for the parents, to
help or motivate their children to study harder.
VI.
The Hypothesis of Research
It is a temporary
answer for the research problem before proving through collected data.
1.
Hypothesis (Ho)
It describes that there is no significant influence between the
Indonesian structure skill and the English structure skill of the sixth semester of English department
students of STAIN Ponorogo in the year of 2008/2009
2.
Hypothesis (Ha)
It describes
that there is a significant influence between the Indonesian structure skill
and the English structure skill of the
sixth semester of English department students of STAIN Ponorogo in the year of
2008/2009.
VII.
The Method of Research
a.
The design of research
The
design of research consists of two variables. One is independent variable. It
is the Indonesian structure skill of the
sixth semester of English department students of STAIN Ponorogo in the year of
2008/2009, while the dependent variable is the English structure skill of the sixth semester of English department
students of STAIN Ponorogo in the year of 2008/2009.
b.
Population and Sample
According
to Ibnu Hajar, Population is a large group of individu who have the same
general characteristics.[5]
The
population of this research is the whole student of the sixth semester of English department
students of STAIN Ponorogo in the year of 2008/2009.
While
the sample is according to Margono, a part of populations taken as an example…[6].
The sample of this research is the sixth
semester of class TI.A of English department students of STAIN Ponorogo in the
year of 2008/2009. In taking this research, the writer applies proportional random
sampling technique by using methods as follows:
The
number of the sixth semester of English
department students of STAIN PONOROGO in the year of 2008/2009 is 98 students.
It consists of TI.A, TI.B, and TI.C. From all of the classes, we are to take 10
students of TI.A, 10 students of TI.B and 10 students of TI.C, so the amount of
sample 30 students.
1.
Writing all the names of Students of TI.A on a little piece of paper then entering
them into a box, and finally taking 10 names by shaking it.
2.
Then doing the same way for TI.B and
TI.C.
VIII.
The Method of Collecting Data
a.
Interview method
It is a direct interview to acquire data related to the
Indonesian structure skill and the English structure skill.
b.
Observation
Data acquired from implementing and recording the
research.
c.
Questionnaire
A number of written questions applied to acquire respond
and information.
IX.
The Method of Data Analysis
The data is analyzed by
using statistic quantitative technique, in this research the researcher applies
the product moment technique with formula:
∑ x1y1
______________ -
Cx1Cy1
N
______________________
rxy =
SDx1SDy1
∑
x1y1 = the result of multiplication between cell frequency (f) and X1,Y1

The System of Clarification
There will be five chapters
in this research, the first chapter is introduction that consists of background
of problem, formulation of problem, the objectives of research, the advantages
of research and the system of clarification
The second chapter is the research methodology that comprises the design of research,
population, sample and response, data collection instrument data collection
technique, and data analysis technique
The Result of the research
on Indonesian Structure Skill and English Structure Skill is the third chapter
that consists of the general data of research location: (1)History of
foundation of STAIN Ponorogo (2) The geography
location of STAIN Ponorogo, Particular data and analysis of correlation
